Research and Development is the key to a sustainable and profitable future for Australian farming communities, and Baker Seed Co is proud to be a major stakeholder in the development and delivery of new and innovative products to satisfy the needs in a challenging and changing environment.

Baker Seed Co's trialling programme in Australia, is a very significant investment in both time and money by the Company. However, the outcome of this commitment ensures Australian seed growers have access to the very best performing seeds identified from Baker's Research and Development. Baker Seed Co ensures that customers using any products from our range can be satisfied that all due diligence work has been carried out, both in the laboratory and in the field, prior to release.

Baker Seed Co’s commitment to providing quality seed is best displayed at our demonstration site. By constantly monitoring the development and expression of each varieties individual characteristics, we are able to share our knowledge and expertise giving our customers confidence in every bag of seed they buy.Furthermore, Baker Seed Co's team of highly skilled staff are constantly seeking and exploring new opportunities which may further drive production and profitability at the farm gate level.

Purity Test

A purity test analyses for contaminants such as weed seeds, other crop seeds, broken seed, soil, insects and any other contaminants as defined by the International Seed Testing Association (ISTA). Varietal purity is also important for when a variety is chosen for cultivation based on its disease resistance, length of maturity and agronomic characteristics.

Germination Test

A germination test determines the germination potential of seed. This information can be used to estimate the optimum sowing rate based on germination percentage, expected emergence, and target plant populations.

Vigour Test

Environmental stress is not accounted for in a germination test. Seed lots with equal
germination but different vigour can result in much different plant establishment.
A Vigour Test indicates the potential for rapid, uniform emergence and development of normal seedlings under a wide range of field conditions.
